f you’ve ever assembled stainless steel hose then you have probably experienced the hassle, frustration, and (even worse) the pain of torn up, bloody fingers. If your not into pain and bloody stumps for fingers, not to mention trying to push a couple hundred stubborn, frayed, “needles” into a new home, than you need to get a set of Koul Tools. These tools are so easy to work with that after trying once all we could say was: Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner? Constructed of tough, lightweight composite material, these tools are simple to work with and require only basic skills to master. They work by simply “funneling” the hose into the fitting. To get the tool ready simply place the fitting in one half of the corresponding tool and connect the other half. Spray some penetrating oil into the inlet side of the tool, then firmly hold the assembly using either a vise or a tight grip, insert hose and twist into place. It’s really that simple and only takes about 5-10 seconds to insert the hose into each fitting. After taking the fitting out of the tool you’re ready to assemble the rest of the fitting by simply screwing the other portion onto the fitting you’ve just assembled. |

In case you’ve never assembled stainless braided line,
here’s
start to finish instructions.
|
- Determine the correct size/length of hose and size/type of fittings to be used.
- Measure and mark the length of hose needed.
- Wrap the hose (around the mark) with tape. Some prefer duct tape, some prefer electrical,
we’ve found a good quality masking tape
works well and doesn’t “pull” on the cut
strands too much.
- Cut the hose by cutting through the tape (this keeps the stainless from fraying) with an
abrasive cut-off wheel, a 32-tooth hacksaw, a sharp chisel, or a Beverly shear.
- Slowly remove the tape from the piece you
will be using. You’ll want to keep the tape on
the end of your “bulk” hose so that it stores well.
- Previously, you would have had to either cut any protruding pieces of stainless braid or
force them into the fitting, this is where the
bloody fingers came into play. Now, you’ll be
able to simply twist them into the fitting using a Koul Tool.
- Place the fitting in one half of the corresponding tool and connect the other half, thereby encasing the fitting.
- Spray some penetrating oil into the inlet side of the tool.
- Firmly hold the assembly using either a vise (recommended) or a tight grip, insert hose and twist into place.
- Remove fitting from tool and lubricate threads with light oil.
- Mark a line on the hose behind the “inner”
edge of the fitting. This will serve as a reference point during assembly.
- Firmly hold the fitting while screwing on the
other half until about 1/16” from the bottom.
Verify the mark made earlier is still in the
same position. If it moved you’ll need to unscrew and repeat this step.
- Using solvent, blow out any contaminants that may have worked their way into the hose assembly. Done.

These tools make the job so easy you won’t believe it
until you try them.
