Checklist for Choosing Child Care

• Safety - Does the caregiver provide a safe, clean, healthy home and careful supervision of the children?
• Disciplin - Do you agree with the type of discipline that the caregiver uses?
• Learning - Are there planned learning activities or just TV?
• Activities - Are there planned indoor and outdoor activities that are "safe and fun?"
• Food - Are meals provided regularly and are they healthy?
• Schedule - Are the hours good for you and your child?
• Flexibility - What happens if the child or caregiver is sick? What about early drop-offs or late pick-ups?
• Number of Children - How many is too many?
• Cost - Is the cost reasonable and can you afford it? Are you eligible for a subsidy?
• References - What do others think of the child care provided by this person?
